When we go on holiday I always like to draw up a few lists. A brain dump of everything I could possibly need to pack for whatever the weather throws at us–we didn’t need jumpers this year, hurrah!–things to do, and best of all, new places to eat. Miss V’s Cream Teas popped up in a list of the best cream teas in Cornwall so I jotted down the postcode and some rough directions. (In Cornwall it’s best to have both directions and a satnav as the postcode areas covered are huge!)
So, being possessed of both a sunny afternoon and a healthy appetite we set off on our little adventure. St Just in Roseland was about an hours drive from Bodmin so we got some quality sightseeing done. I love driving through little villages and seeing gaily painted houses flashing past and admiring the patchwork green fields as they whizz past.
Miss V’s Cream Teas are housed in a lovely little wooden tea hut in the churchyard of St Just’s Church in the village of St Just-in-Roseland. The tea hut is completely off the grid, using solar power to boil the kettle with recyclable cardboard boxes (in lieu of china) and cups for cream teas and cakes. There are a few tables under a marquee but the majority are outdoors including two huge rustic tables and benches which could easily seat twenty each!
Despite being tempted by the cherry-topped cake, we went for the cream tea as the scones looked huge and amazing. Hours later I came to regret my cake-less state, non-buyers remorse.

After demolishing our cream teas we ventured down the hill to visit the church.
To our surprise the church yard was planted with sub-tropical plants! It’s not every day you see a 13th century church flanked by an avenue of palm trees, now is it?!
Miss V’s Cream Teas are certainly worth the drive (and adventure!) of seeking out, with one small caveat… As all the seating is outdoors and there’s a hive somewhere nearby, you will be visited by rather a lot of hungry honeybees. Lucas and I provided plenty of entertainment for the other diners as we tried to eat our scones without a mouthful of bee! Takeaway cream teas are an option, though!!
